Use tennis to improve your life, not escape from it!

with Scott Tawse the Mindful Tennis Coach

“Tennis is mostly mental. You win or lose the match before you even go out there.”

― Venus Williams

“If, while learning tennis, you begin to learn how to focus your attention and how to trust in yourself, you have learned something far more valuable than how to hit a forceful backhand. The backhand can be used to advantage only on a tennis court, but the skill of mastering the art of effortless concentration is invaluable in whatever you set your mind to.

― W. Timothy Gallwey, quote from The Inner Game of Tennis: The Classic Guide to the Mental Side of Peak Performance

Players self-sabotage

their success because they are so paralysed with fear of “what ifs”

WHAT IFI miss?
WHAT IFI let my partner down?
WHAT IFI double-fault?
WHAT IFI lose to ‘this’ player?
WHAT IFI embarrass myself?
WHAT IFthey don’t want to play with me again?

Does any of this sound familiar?

There is a way out of this thinking that will not only help you enjoy and win more matches, but will also have unexpected off-court results…

And that is IMPROVING YOUR MENTAL FITNESS

This is why I have partnered with Positive Intelligence Inc. to share a 6-week programme that helps you rewire your brain for more happiness and success based on breakthrough research in neuroscience.

Before working with Scott I struggled with the mindset of playing. He made it feel a lot more realistic for me to improve and understood the mental frustrations I was having. Since working with Scott my game has improved and my mental attitude to the game is much better. I enjoy playing tennis a lot more and have since joined a league thanks to the confidence Scott has given me. My mental game has improved the most which has elevated me as a player. It has helped me to improve mentally off court as tennis is a great part of my life again. I would recommend Scott to anyone who is looking to improve their game at any level

I wholeheartedly recommend the 7 week PQ course. Initially sceptical that I would not have the spare time needed to dedicate to the course my fears were quickly allayed. The app is well structured and looking back I am amazed how the simple daily exercises and focus can have such a profound impact.

The 6 WEEK MENTAL FITNESS PROGRAMME

Designed like a mental fitness bootcamp, the PQ Program gives you the insights, motivation, and structure to practice 15 minutes per day for 6 weeks. The programme combines weekly video sessions with daily app-guided practices to boost your 3 core mental fitness muscles.

6 WEEKS of INSPIRED PRACTICE

WEEK 1

BOOST YOUR SELF-COMMAND MUSCLE

The first week you learn innovative 10-second PQ Reps that boost your self-command. This enables you to run your brain rather than being run by your Saboteur-hijacked brain. Self-command is key to intercepting unhelpful mental habits and rewiring your brain to respond more effectively.

WEEK 2

INTERCEPT THE JUDGE SABOTEUR

For this entire week, you’ll intercept and weaken the most damaging Saboteur, the Judge. You discover how judging yourself, others, and circumstances is a key source of your stress and quite damaging to your performance. Most participants discover their Judge to be far more prevalent and damaging than they suspected.

WEEK 3

INTERCEPT YOUR ACCOMPLICE SABOTEURS

This week you intercept and weaken the top accomplice to your Judge Saboteur, identified through the Saboteur Assessment from the following: Avoider, Controller, Hyper-Achiever, Hyper-Rational, Hyper-Vigilant, Pleaser, Restless, Stickler, Victim.

WEEK 4

SHIFT FROM SABOTEUR TO SAGE

After weakening your Saboteurs, it is now time to strengthen your Sage, the counterpart to your Saboteurs. Your Sage lives in an entirely different part of your brain, generates all your positive emotions, and achieves peak performance through a calm and clear mind.

WEEK 5

BOOST THE SAGE POWERS

After weakening your Saboteurs, it is now time to strengthen your Sage, the counterpart to your Saboteurs. Your Sage lives in an entirely different part of your brain, generates all your positive emotions, and achieves peak performance through a calm and clear mind.

WEEK 6

TAKE CLEAR-HEADED, LASER-FOCUSED ACTION

In our final week, you use your Sage’s Navigate and Activate powers to take clear-headed, laser-focused, decisive action.

Meet the Judge, Your Master Saboteur

The Judge is the universal Saboteur that afflicts everyone. It is the one that beats you up repeatedly over mistakes and misses, warns you obsessively about future risks, wakes you up in the middle of the night worrying, gets you fixated on what is wrong – with yourself, others, your life, etc. Your Judge activates your other Saboteurs, causes much of your stress and unhappiness, reduces your on and off-court effectiveness, and harms your relationships.

The Accomplice Saboteurs

The Judge works with one or more Accomplice Saboteurs to hijack your mind and cause most of your setbacks. Do any of these seem familiar to you?

Avoider

Focusing on the positive and pleasant in an extreme way. Avoiding difficult and unpleasant tasks and conflicts.

Controller

Anxiety-based need to take charge and control situations and people’s actions to one’s own will. High anxiety and impatience when that is not possible.

Hyper-Achiever

Dependent on constant performance and achievement for self-respect and self-validation. Latest achievement quickly discounted, needing more.

Hyper-Rational

Intense and exclusive focus on the rational processing of everything, including relationships. Can be perceived as uncaring, unfeeling, or intellectually arrogant.

Hyper-Vigilant

Continuous intense anxiety about all the dangers and what could go wrong. Vigilance that can never rest.

Pleaser

Indirectly tries to gain acceptance and affection by helping, pleasing, rescuing, or flattering others. Loses sight of own needs and becomes resentful as a result.

Restless

Restless, constantly in search of greater excitement in the next activity or constant busyness. Rarely at peace or content with the current activity.

Stickler

Perfectionism and a need for order and organisation taken too far. Anxious trying to make too many things perfect.

Victim

Emotional and temperamental as a way to gain attention and affection. An extreme focus on internal feelings, particularly painful ones. Martyr streak.
